Long time no see (again). Life and work and other pursuits have kept me from this website and blog, and I spent a while feeling bad about that. Now, I think it's okay. I've spent the past year focusing on revisions, building a wonderful little writing community, and pursuing dreams of future work as a literary agent. Sometimes you have to prioritize and accept what falls through the cracks.
Due to the current state of the world, I am holed up in my house with two cats and lots of time to write, bake, and explore this blog once more. I added a new page to the site (Book Lists) and I am working on my first list, which will gather recommendations for LGBT+ novels lacking the 'heartbreaking' narrative. I find more LGBT+ books in the YA section every time I go to the bookstore, which is wonderful, but I spent a long time searching not only for LGBT books, but ones that wouldn't leave me crushed and broken. Stay tuned for that list and hopefully for a couple new blog posts, but for now, here is a regal kitty.

Writer Coven returns! A lot has happened since my last update. I won NaNoWriMo in November (miraculously--stay tuned for a reflective blog post about my second NaNo experience). I've put that manuscript aside to continue rewriting an older manuscript, but I plan to pick it up again soon enough. Along with the official NaNoWriMo event, I co-hosted two Twitter games with @WriterCoven (#AllNaNosEve and #NaNoWIPcraft). We had a lot of fun getting to know about writers and their stories, and we can't wait to jump back in.
Which brings me to our next game--#OneTrueWIP! Do you ever feel a "it loves me, it loves me not" vibe from the writing process? If so, join @WriterCoven to share your loves, vent your frustrations, and most importantly . . . WRITE! For the duration of February's game, dedicate yourself to writing every day and engage in our daily prompts about the joys and mishaps of the writing process. Bonus: There will be FOUR giveaways throughout the month of February! Follow @WriterCoven on Twitter for more info about #OneTrueWIP, our upcoming giveaways, and more. I'm working on more blog posts to come after February's events, so check back to hear my thoughts on NaNoWriMo, audiobooks, and damsels in distress . . . oh my! Hello! I am currently taking a break from my blog to focus on rewriting a manuscript and planning for NaNoWriMo 2018. On top of that, three of my writer friends and I are hosting hashtag games on Twitter to help writers get to know each other and power through the month of November. Follow us @WriterCoven and join in on the fun! October's countdown to NaNo is #AllNaNosEve, details below.
I've spent the past month or so in a bit of a writing slump, but I think I've mostly pulled myself out of it. I owe a lot to my writer friends for helping me feel legitimate as a writer despite my lack of, well, writing. That's why today's blog post is about the benefits of befriending other writers. Check it out!
Check out my latest blog post, which is a reflection on my first twenty days of this month's Camp NaNoWriMo. Despite spending most of that time abroad in Japan, I decided to take on the challenge, and I am a happier writer because of it.
Do you want a more hands-on revision process? Are you struggling to decide how to rearrange or refocus chapters of your manuscript? Consider making a tangible outline. Check out my reasons and tips in my latest blog post.
The TBR shelf is an iconic piece of a bookaholic's existence. We all have a love-hate relationship with it. It mocks us with the proof of our obsession and with the endless possibilities that time and responsibility bar from us. But if that shelf becomes more of a burden than a blessing, consider lightening the load.
I recently decided to purge my own TBR shelf, so check out my latest blog post for an explanation of why that experience makes me feel much lighter and more excited for future reading. Long time no see! After making the difficult decision to take a break from the writing world in order to focus on graduating from college, I am diving back in. Check out my latest blog post for my reflection on the choice and why I believe taking a break here and there is beneficial to mental health and creativity.
Check out my latest blog post for a recap of last Thursday's #PhotoStoryPrompt, a flash fiction challenge created by Radina Valova.
